Earn the reveal

The Bridge changes the meaning of every earlier room. What looked like a shelter is part of a damaged spaceship, and Earth becomes the quiet proof that the player’s repairs were always leading somewhere larger.

Expand the rule set

The spacewalk changes movement to propulsion, continued drift, and tether pull while preserving familiar ideas: limited resources, repair, routing, readable machine states, and permanent power rewards.

Design principle: a new space should feel surprising without discarding the rules the player already learned.

Make the tether readable

Anchors connect traversal and cable routing. Eligible, attached, last-attached, and unavailable states need to be visible before the player commits to a route.

EligibleWithin reach.
AttachedRoute is live.
Last attachedDetachable.
UnavailableRoute is blocked.

Risk without a dead end

Oxo, suit integrity, six anchors, and input-specific control hints keep risk visible without requiring a dense HUD. Failure should be legible, recoverable, and consistent with the established repair loop.

Make payoff permanent

The sixth anchor unlocks the junction; the solar array deploys; Facility energy increases by one. The reward is not only a cutscene—it changes the shelter the player returns to.

Return changed

The exterior remains revisitable after the story mission, but the tether objective is complete. The player can return to the familiar shelter with a new spatial understanding and a permanently expanded system.

Awe → anxiety → mastery → quiet payoff. Every challenge earns its place by changing what comes next.
